STANDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS

“I was in UK, in London, I looked at one of their coins and there was a phrase ‘Standing on the shoulders of giants’ (...) When you’re a small man and you’re standing on a shoulder of a giant, you see further than the giant, I asked myself who are the giants. And I thought all these time we have been the giants, the Africans, the Asians, and these guys have been standing on our shoulders and they have been seeing further than us. (...) And that is what is with the African, Asian and all these main people who have been exploited, they are always kept in their belif that for them they are helpless, they can not do anything but I think we are very powerful in Africa, we have a lot of power and a lot of knowledge.”

Dwarfs "standing on the shoulders of giants" is a Western metaphor meaning "One who develops future intellectual pursuits by understanding the research and works created by notable thinkers of the past". It was famously used by the seventeenth-century scientist Isaac Newton.
